Currently and easily the most popular team in college basketball is the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, whom have become the highest seed to ever advance into the sweet 16. A huge proponent of their success has been the play of Sophomore Point Guard Brett Comer who has dished up countless highlight reel assists in the Eagles’ two huge wins over Georgetown and San Diego State. Comer has tallied 22 points and 24 assists in the two tournament wins thus far.

Toward the end of the game against San Diego State, Comer was on a one-on-none fast break when one of the announcers mentioned that “wouldn’t it be something if Comer dunked this in.” Well, Comer didn’t and its not because he can’t, as evidenced by the video below.

It is also important to note that Comer attended the prestigious Winter Park high school in Florida where he won two state championships playing alongside current New Orleans Hornet Austin Rivers.

The play below comes from this past Saturday’s matchup between Gonzaga and Illinois. With just under 8 minutes left in the game Zags guard Gary Bell hits a 3-pointer from the left wing. What transpires after really can’t be explained in words… Let’s just say Gonzaga walk-on Rem Bakamus has come up with a very unique way to celebrate a made 3-point bucket.

The video is embedded below and the said play can be seen at about the 0:49 mark. Additionally I must give credit to Mark TItus over at Grantland who made the excellent discovery of this special moment in time.

As we begin to embark on yet another bowl season, I am reminded of the love I have for the corporate sponsorship that is involved with each and every bowl. [...]

As we begin to embark on yet another bowl season, I am reminded of the love I have for the corporate sponsorship that is involved with each and every bowl. The “traditional” bowl games do remain, such as the Rose, Orange, etc. But what I’m really excited about now is the newer bowl games, and how the idea of subtleness has been deemed overrated. For this reason we have some of my favorites like the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, and let’s not leave out the Franklin American Mortgage Motor City Bowl. What does any of this have to do with Bowl picks? Nothing.

Here are the selections ordered as 1 being the most confident and 35 being the least.

1.) New Era Pinstripe Bowl – West Virginia vs. Syracuse Line – WVU -4.5

Pick – West Virginia

Remember the 70 points that West Virginia hung on Clemson in their bowl game last year? Ok good, expect something similar to that here as QB Geno Smith and WR Tavon Austin will use this as an opportunity to showcase their talent to NFL scouts. West Virginia is just 3-6 as the favorite this year, but take that with a big grain of salt since a couple of those games they lost ATS were versus Kansas State and Texas Tech.

2.) Independence Bowl – UL Monroe vs. Ohio Line – Ohio -7

Pick – UL Monroe

Ohio has only covered the spread twice this year as a favorite. Keep in mind those games were against FCS Norfolk State and the high powered 2-10 Eagles of Eastern Michigan. Ohio is also 1-4 in their last 5 games.

3.) Rose Bowl – Wisconsin vs. Stanford Line – Stanford -6.5

Pick – Stanford

Wisconsin flat out struggles against defenses that deploy strong front sevens. Hence losing games against Oregon State, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan State this season. The Badgers did avenge their early season loss to Nebraska two weeks ago in the Big 10 championship game, thrashing the Huskers 70-31. Don’t expect the same result in this game. Stanford is #1 in sacks per game and has the #3 rush defense in the country.

4.) Holiday Bowl – UCLA vs. Baylor Line – UCLA – 1

Pick – UCLA

Several weeks ago Baylor was sitting at 4-5 with the possibility of getting to a bowl game slowing diminishing given the fact their last three games were against #1 Kansas State, Texas Tech, and #23 Oklahoma State. Baylor literally defied the odds and won all three games. While Baylor has played exemplary offense in those games, they have still continued to struggle defensively, allowing 34 ppg in those wins. Expect UCLA RB Jonathon Franklin (1,700 rush yds) to have a great day against the 90th ranked rush defense in the country.

5.) Sun Bowl – Georgia Tech vs. USC Line – USC -10

Pick – USC

Emotion plays a big role with this selection for several reasons. Senior QB Matt Barkley, who was the Heisman favorite at the beginning of the season, has been cleared to play against the yellow jackets after missing the season finale against #1 Notre Dame. Additionally USC has not participated in a bowl game for two years, so while the season has been disappointing, they will be motivated to play well. If this doesn’t do it for you maybe the fact that Georgia Tech has the #82 ranked pass efficiency defense and that USC has two virtually un-coverable WR’s in Marqise Lee (1,680 yds & 14 TDs) and Robert Woods (813 yds & 11 TDs) will.

6.) Capital One Bowl – Georgia vs. Nebraska Line – Georgia -10

Pick – Georgia

Some may be scratching their heads with this pick since Georgia is a double digit favorite against the 10-3 Big 10 runner up. But in the three games where Nebraska played top end talent, they not only lost, they got brutalized on the defensive side of the football. (Yes, I do understand they beat Wisconsin 30-27 in their 1st meeting) Those games were: 36-30 L @ UCLA, 63-38 L @ Ohio State, and 70-31 L vs. Wisconsin. I do understand that Nebraska has the #1 pass defense in all of football, but look at the conference they play in. In turn Nebraska’s run defense is ranked #96.

7.) BCS National Championship – Alabama vs. Notre Dame Line – Alabama -9.5

Pick – Notre Dame

Alabama more than likely is the most talented team in football, while also owning the best offensive line in the country. They can flat out dominate teams up front, much like they did against Georgia in the SEC title game. But it is important to understand that Notre Dame does possess the talent in their defensive front seven to keep this game close. These are the top two scoring defenses in the country, expect a close game.

8.) Hawaii Bowl – Fresno State vs. SMU Line – Fresno State -11.5

Pick – Fresno State

Fresno State is 9-0 as the favorite in their last 10 games. In those 10 games the Bulldogs have been double digit favorites in five of those. Fresno has just 3 losses, to #4 Oregon by 17 and close losses to fellow bowl bound teams in road games against Boise State and Tulsa. Fresno has one of the most balanced offenses in the country led by NFL prospect QB Derek Carr (3,742 yds, 36 TDs, 5 INTs) and RB Robbie Rouse (1,468 yds, 12 TDs). SMU is inconsistent allowing more than 30 points five times while also never having a winning streak beyond two games.

9.) GoDaddy.com Bowl – Kent State vs. Arkansas State Line – Arkansas State -4

Pick – Kent State

Kent State was an overtime away from breaking into the BCS, however their loss was Northern Illinois’s gain. Arkansas State has won their last seven games and scored 34 or more points in all those wins. Kent State is 4-1-1 as the underdog in their last 10 games. Both teams are in the midst of coaching changes, because of this you have to look at how disciplined each team is. Kent State is #2 in turnover margin in the country.

10.) Poinsettia Bowl – San Diego State vs. BYU Line – BYU -2.5

Pick – BYU

San Diego State likes to run the football and is successful in doing so with the #16 ranked rushing attack in football. BYU likes to stop the rush ranking #2 against it and #3 in overall defense. BYU does have five losses, all but one of those losses have been by six points or less. SDSU can struggle defensively at times and BYU’s balance should help the Cougars pull this one out.

11.) New Mexico Bowl – Nevada vs. Arizona Line – Arizona -9.5

Pick – Nevada

Arizona is 2-4 as the favorite this year while Nevada is 2-1 as the underdog. Both teams are pretty deplorable on the defensive side of the football with each ranking drastically low in all defensive rankings and each allowing over 430 yards per game. Both teams excel offensively and boast the top two rushers in college football with Nevada RB Stefphon Jefferson and Zona’ RB Kadeem Carey. This should be extremely high scoring with Nevada having the ability to keep the game close.

12.) Music City Bowl – N.C. State vs. Vanderbilt Line – Vanderbilt -6.5

Pick – Vanderbilt

The Wolfpack are in a coaching transition as they say goodbye to Tom O’Brien, and the Commodores should feel good after having an 8-4 campaign while going 5-3 in SEC play. Vanderbilt has won 6 games in a row and is 5-2 as the favorite. Vandy also deploys the #17 ranked total defense while averaging an SEC high 7.75 tackles per loss.

13.) Gator Bowl – Mississippi State vs. N’Western Line – MSU -2

Pick – N’Western

Northwestern is 5-1 as the underdog this year, and the Bulldogs have been reeling as of late. After starting the season 7-0, MSU is 1-4 in their last five games. Granted that three of those games were against Bama, LSU, and A&M. However, point out one meaningful win that Mississippi State has this year… You probably can’t since they have yet to beat a winning school from an AQ conference.

14.) Russell Athletic Bowl – Rutgers vs. Virginia Tech Line – V-Tech -2.5

Pick – Rutgers

Virginia Tech is undisciplined, young, and inconsistent. Two of the Hokies pedestrian six wins came in OT against Georgia Tech and Boston College. While both teams strengths are their defenses, Rutgers is just a little bit better and has fared 3-1 as the underdog this season.

15.) Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl – MSU vs. TCU Line – TCU -2.5

Pick – Michigan State

Both teams have endured unfortunate seasons with TCU losing their starting QB Casey Pachall to off the field issues early in the season, and MSU losing 5 games by four points or less. MSU is the #4 total defense in the country while also having one of the most bruising backs in the game in RB Le’Veon Bell (1,648 yards, 11 TDs). Expect the Spartans to control the ball while limiting TCU’s opportunities offensively.

16.) Fiesta Bowl – Oregon vs. Kansas State Line – Oregon -8.5

Pick – Oregon

Kansas State has had a magical year nearly going undefeated while playing five Top 25 teams over the course of the season. However, Kansas State has not seen the speed that Oregon will deploy on offense and will more than likely be overwhelmed early and often. Oregon is an impressive 7-5 as the favorite this year, especially since many of those games saw the Ducks being double digit favorites.

17.) Potato Bowl – Toledo vs. Utah State Line – USU -10

Pick – Toledo

Utah State has only lost two games this year by a combined five points to Wisconsin and BYU. Utah State is also 6-1-1 as the favorite this year while boasting a 3,000 yard passer, a 1,000 yard rusher, and two receivers totaling over 600 yards. While I do believe Utah State will win the game, they are not going to win by two possessions. Toledo is balanced while also garnering wins over three bowl bound teams and also accumulating a 5-0 mark as the underdog this season.

18.) Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl – Ball State vs. UCF Line – UCF -7

Pick – Ball State

Both teams matchup very well in this game exhibiting both balance in the passing and running games offensively. UCF lost twice to Conference USA champion Tulsa, and also lost early in the season to both Ohio State and Missouri. Meanwhile Ball State has won six games in a row, and has never been held under 20 points.

19.) Las Vegas Bowl – Washington vs. Boise State Line – Boise St -5

Pick – Washington

Boise State’s prowess against AQ schools is well known, however when you have to replace 19 starters… that has a tendency to change your season a little bit. Both teams play exceptional defense, but Washington has the more impressive resume here with wins against both Stanford and Oregon State. Look for Husky QB Keith Price (2,486 yds, 18 TDs) to be the difference in a low scoring game.

20.) Military Bowl – San Jose State vs. Bowling Green Line – SJSU -7

Pick – SJSU

Bowling Green’s strength is defense, San Jose’s is offense. So the question is obvious, what gives? Well, BGSU can get pretty stagnant on offense at times and SJSU is 7-2 as the favorite. San Jose State has also won six games in a row with their only losses coming to Stanford and Utah State.

21.) Compass Bowl – Pitt vs. Ole Miss Line – Ole Miss -3.5

Pick – Ole Miss

Ole Miss is 6-6 this year and has played valiantly in tough one possession losses against LSU and Texas A&M. Pitt on the other hand has been slightly inconsistent, especially by starting off the year losing to FCS Youngstown State then getting blown out by Cincy the following week. Ole Miss is also 4-1 has the favorite this season.

22.) Belk Bowl – Cincinnati vs. Duke Line – Cincy -7

Pick – Duke

Let’s just go ahead and call this more of a hunch than a definitive pick. I’m playing off of the emotions of this game rather than the concrete statistics. Cincy Head Coach Butch Jones is out and rehearsing Rocky Top, meanwhile Tommy Tubberville is in. This game is Duke’s 1st bowl appearance since 1994.

23.) Liberty Bowl – Tulsa vs. Iowa State Line – Pick

Pick – Iowa State

Oddly enough these two teams played each other in the 1st week of the season with Iowa State winning 38-23. While this isn’t the only reason for the selection, I’m going to end it with that being it.

24.) Alamo Bowl – Texas vs. Oregon State Line – OSU -2

Pick – Oregon State

Oregon State began the season 6-0 with wins over four bowl eligible teams. Texas has been up and down all year, surrendering 63 points to Oklahoma in the Red River shootout and dropping their last two games of the regular season. Texas is also once again an extremely underachieving team with superb amounts of talent. Confusion still remains at who should be the starter at QB between McCoy and Ash.

25.) New Orleans Bowl – La.Lafayette vs. ECU Line – La. Laf. -6

Pick – La. Lafayette

Lafayette lost four games this season with the only bad loss coming against 4-8 North Texas. Lafayette was also supremely impressive in Gainesville against Florida in November. The Cajuns lead the game 20-13 until Florida scored two TDs in the last 1:42 of the game.

26.) Armed Forces Bowl – Air Force vs. Rice Line – AF -1

Pick – Rice

While Air Force isn’t exactly the overwhelming favorite here, they are only 1-7 as the favorite this year. Rice has won four straight including a dominant 36-14 win over SMU. Air Force is 1-3 in their last four, with a horrible 21-41 loss against 2-10 Army.

27.) Orange Bowl – Northern Illinois vs. FSU Line – FSU -13.5

Pick – FSU

There is an abundance of story lines in this game to speak of. But the bottom line is FSU is exceedingly more talented and should win easily playing in a game in their own backyard.

28.) Chick-fil-a Bowl – LSU vs. Clemson Line – LSU -4

Pick – LSU

LSU is just 4-7 as the favorite this season. Clemson has only been the underdog once all season against FSU. While no offense may be as dynamic as Clemson’s, we saw them get stopped in their tracks against the solid South Carolina defense a couple weeks ago. LSU’s defense is better. As a side note, remember the 70 Clemson allowed in last year’s bowl?

29.) Outback Bowl – South Carolina vs. Michigan Line – SC -5

Pick – Michigan

Michigan has played inspired defense this year under Greg Mattison. Look for Michigan to continue that against a Marcus Lattimoreless South Carolina team. Also look for a big performance from Denard Robinson in his last collegiate game.

30.) Sugar Bowl – Florida vs. Louisville Line – UF -13.5

Pick – Florida

This is once again another great example why the Big East needs to have their BCS status revoked. Florida plays defense and controls the clock behind the steady play of QB Jeff Driskel and running of RB Mike Gillislee (1,104, 10TDs). Meanwhile Louisville relies on QB Teddy Bridgewater for nearly everything while struggling on defense at times. Expect Florida to control the ball and win by multiple possessions.

31.) Little Caesar’s Bowl – Western Kentucky vs. CMU Line – WKU -5

Pick – WKU

CMU is just 1-5 as the underdog this season and is #99 in scoring defense. Western Kentucky while not an offensive dynamo does have an outstanding RB in Antonio Andrews (1,609 yards, 11 TDs).

32.) Car Care Bowl – Texas Tech vs. Minnesotta Line – TTU -12.5

Pick – T-Tech

The Golden Gophers are deplorable on offense ranking #108 passing, #81 rushing, and #99 scoring. The Red Raiders meanwhile are 4-2 as the favorite and are the #2 pass offense in the country. Expect alot of scoring from Texas Tech and not much from Minnesotta.

33.) Hunger Bowl – Arizona State vs. Navy Line – ASU -14

Pick – Arizona State

Arizona State is 6-1 as the favorite this season and while Navy does have the #6 rushing attack, they only score 24.8 ppg. Expect a big game form ASU QB Taylor Kelly (2,772 yds, 25 TDs).

34.) Heart of Dallas Bowl – Oklahoma State vs. Purdue Line – OK St -17

Pick – Ok State

This is the biggest spread this bowl season and I see Oklahoma State covering it. Purdue is in coaching turnover, saying goodbye to Danny Hope and hello to Darrell Hazell. Purdue doesn’t exactly like the idea of defense either allowing 30 ppg this year, Oklahoma State scores nearly 45 per contest.

35.) Cotton Bowl – Oklahoma vs. Texas A&M Line – A&M -4.5

Pick – Oklahoma

Oklahoma is in rare territory in this game, having never been the underdog this season. A&M on the other hand is one of the hottest teams in the country, and now boasts the Heisman winner in you know who. This is basically a toss up, so we’re going to go Oklahoma here. The twist being that I see A&M winning the game.

Today Navy and Army meet for the 113th time today and will be sporting brand new Nike Pro Combat uniforms which are pictured below. Navy is easily the favorite given the fact that they are 7-4 while Army has only been able to muster two wins all season. On the bright side Army does have two 1,000 yard rushers in QB Trent Steelman and RB Raymond Maples. However, when you are dead last in passing yards per game with 68 per outing, it isn’t exactly hard to game plan against Army. Nonetheless, it should hopefully be competitive given how big the rivalry is.

1.) Kansas State

What a ride it has been for Bill Snyder. It wasn’t five years ago that this KSU program was a bottom dweller in the Big 12. Now, KSU controls it’s destiny in terms of a BCS title shot. The two teams standing in the way of KSU and a title game birth no one could have predicted are Kansas and Texas. Kansas has yet to get a victory over a BCS program yet this season, but Texas will be a whole different animal. After taking a throttling from Oklahoma, Texas has seemingly have been on fire. They will not be an easy beat for the Wildcats. KSU vs. Texas will be an epic showdown with everything on the line for Bill Synders squad.

BCS title game possibility: Likely. I haven’t predicted against Bill Snyder all year, and I won’t today. KSU will be in the big game!

2.) Oregon

The Juggernaut that is the Oregon Ducks offense has yet to be even slowed this season. Stanford, Oregon St., and a Pac-12 title game stand in the way of Duck dreams for a National Title birth. If the Ducks survive their next two games I would predict a victory over UCLA or USC in the Pac-12 title game. I wouldn’t say it’s a great possibility that Stanford or Oregon St. can beat Oregon, but I’ve been wrong before and that is why they play the games. If my opinion if the Ducks survive Stanford this weekend they will be in the BCS title game.

BCS title game possibility: Likely. Barring an epic meltdown on offense the Ducks will make their second appearance in 3 years in the BCS National Championship game.

3.) Notre Dame

It has been a magical season for the Irish. The Irish navigated a tough schedule, and with a little “Luck of the Irish” to aide them they’re one misstep from KSU or Oregon, and a victory over USC at an a shot on the BCS Title. The latter is more likely than the former, but with the help the Irish have received getting this far to begin with…it wouldn’t really surprise me.

BCS Title game possibility: Decent. A loss by either KSU, or Oregon, and a victory over USC, and the Irish are in.

4.) Alabama

Basically everyone’s pre, mid, and all the way up until last weekend’s pick to not only go to, but win the BCS Championship. Alabama still has a very outside shot to make it to the title game if they win out, and get some serious help from the teams in front of them. Oregon and KSU would both have to lose. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but that loss against Texas A&M hurts. Alabama would have to win out the regular season (likely) and win the SEC Championship game (good possibility), and have Oregon and KSU both lose (highly unlikely). Overall, I still believe Alabama is the best team in the nation. However, they most likely will not be making another trip to the title game this year.

BCS Title game possibility: Not likely, but possible. As I said before, Alabama would need to win out, and get a whole lot of help from the teams above them.

5.) Georgia

Another long shot for the title game, but the Dawgs recovered from the beating South Carolina put on them. Many Georgia fans were saying Coach Mark Richt was on the hot seat this year, and Richt responded by bringing the Bulldogs back into the top 5. The Dawgs have a very good shot at a BCS game, even if they lose in the SEC title game. An at-large birth is very possible. Georgia’s defense has been playing stellar, and they will give Alabama a run for their money in the SEC Championship if they can finish the season strong. However, a BCS Championship game birth is a real longshot. But, if you’re a Georgia fan, and a glass half-full kind of guy then “We’re saying there’s a chance!”

BCS Title game possibility: Real longshot, but we’re saying there’s a chance! Georgia would have to win out, win the SEC Championship (by beating Bama), and have Oregon and KSU both lose. Or, win-out have Bama lose one of their two remaining regular season games (Do you believe in miracles?), and have Oregon or KSU lose.
