The List: Top Performers Week 5

The List highlights the top performances from Week 5 of College Football.

1.) Geno Smith  QB  West Virginia

In case your are in the small percentage of people that didn’t hear or see the West Virginia vs. Baylor game yesterday, we can give you a quick rundown. Over 1500 yards of offense and 133 points by way of 19 Touchdowns in West Virginia’s 70-63 win over Baylor were had yesterday. The man responsible for a large portion of that is Heisman front-runner Geno Smith. Smith put up video game numbers against a Baylor defense that is sure to contemplate their future in football after yesterday’s display. Smith completed 45-51 passes for 656 yards and 8 TDs. To put this in perspective I can’t even do this in NCAA Football 13 when I turn the difficulty down to Freshmen and play against UMass.

2.) Stephen Morris  QB  Miami (Fl)

Stephen Morris apparently heard about what was going on in Morgantown and made his best effort to try and out-duel Geno Smith. While he didn’t manage to do that, he did manage to lead the Hurricanes to a win and set an ACC record for most passing yards in a game. Morris finished with 566 yards and 5 TDs on the day.

3.) Johnny Manziel  QB  Texas A&M

Arkansas seems to show up on The List quite often this year, although it is never for anything good. Yesterday they allowed Johnny Manziel to pretty much do whatever he wanted on their way to getting pummeled by the Aggies 58-10. Manziel threw for 453 yards and 3 scores, but wasn’t finished there as he also ran for 104 and another score. Arkansas did actually lead this game 10-7 after the 1st quarter, so there was at least one positive in there for the Hogs.

4.) Tavon Austin & Stedman Bailey  WRs  West Virginia

Don’t worry we know that in order for Geno Smith to break scoreboards he has to have great receivers to throw to also. No superlatives can be attached to Bailey and Austin to explain how devastating they were to the Bears secondary, so we won’t even try. This pair combined for 27 catches, 518 yards, and 7 TDs. Once again I’m going to try and duplicate this in my video game, maybe if I could change the length of the quarters up to 20 minutes…

5.) David Ash  QB  Texas

Here you go Texas fans. You finally have a QB who goes out in a big game and leads your team down the field on the road to win in the 4th quarter. Ash was up to the challenge in one of yesterday’s best games which was a 41-36 win over Oklahoma State. Ash completed 30-37 passes for 304 yards and 3 TDs.

Honorable Mention

  • Nick Florence QB Baylor – 581 yards passing and 5 TDs
  • Beau Blankenship RB Ohio – 43 carries for 269 yards and 2 TDs
  • Benny Cunningham RB MTU – 27 carries for 217 yards and 5 TDs
  • Terrance Williams WR Baylor – 17 catches for 314 yards and 2 TDs
